Ultrafiltration (UF) Systems
Reliable removal of suspended solids, bacteria, and viruses for pre-treatment and water reuse.
Overview
Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes (0.01–0.1 µm pore size) provide a physical barrier against suspended solids, colloids, bacteria, viruses, and high-molecular-weight organics — producing a consistent, low-SDI permeate suitable as direct feed to downstream RO membranes. Basiia packages UF systems using hollow-fibre pressure-driven modules in inside-out or outside-in flow configurations, with automated backwash, chemically enhanced backwash (CEB), and CIP sequences for sustained long-term flux. UF is used as RO pre-treatment, surface water clarification, tertiary wastewater polishing, and as the membrane module in MBR systems.
Typical Applications
- RO pre-treatment — SDI reduction to <3
- Surface water clarification for potable and process water
- Tertiary wastewater polishing for reuse
- Seawater pre-treatment ahead of SWRO
- Membrane bioreactor (MBR) membrane modules
- Drinking water production from turbid sources
- Industrial process water clarification
- Removal of bacteria and viruses from water supplies
Key Features
Engineered for Performance
Hollow-Fibre Membrane Modules
PVDF or PES hollow-fibre membrane modules with 0.02–0.1 µm nominal pore size — providing absolute removal of suspended solids, bacteria (>6-log), and viruses (>4-log) with consistent permeate SDI <2.
Automated Backwash & CEB
Automated air-assisted backwash cycles (every 20–60 minutes) and chemically enhanced backwash (CEB) with sodium hypochlorite and citric acid — maintaining membrane flux and extending cleaning intervals.
Inside-Out & Outside-In Flow
Inside-out (lumen-side feed) for pre-filtered feeds with low suspended solids; outside-in (shell-side feed) for higher turbidity feeds — configuration selected to optimise flux, fouling resistance, and cleaning effectiveness.
Integrity Testing
Automated pressure decay testing (PDT) or diffusive air flow (DAF) integrity tests to verify membrane barrier integrity — with individual module isolation for maintenance without system shutdown.
Compact Skid Design
Rack-mounted or skid-mounted UF systems with membrane modules, feed pumps, backwash pumps, chemical dosing, and PLC control — factory assembled and pressure tested before shipment.
CIP System
Integrated CIP system with chemical mixing tank, dosing pumps, and automated valve sequencing for periodic deep cleaning — restoring membrane permeability after fouling.
Applicable Standards
- ISO 9001
- NSF/ANSI 61 (membrane materials for potable contact)
- WHO Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality
- ASME B31.3 (Process Piping)
