Strainers

Robust mechanical straining for pipeline protection and coarse solids removal.

Overview

Basiia supplies Y-strainers, basket strainers, duplex strainers, and automatic self-cleaning strainers for protection of pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and instrumentation from pipeline debris, scale, and coarse solids. Our strainer packages are specified to the pipeline rating, fluid service, and required straining element mesh size — supplied in carbon steel, 316L stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, and GRP for corrosive services. Duplex strainers allow continuous operation during element cleaning without process interruption.

Typical Applications

  • Pump suction protection in water and process systems
  • Valve and control valve body protection
  • Heat exchanger inlet protection
  • Cooling water system straining
  • Irrigation and agricultural water supply
  • Fire water system protection
  • Seawater intake straining
  • Chemical dosing system protection

Key Features

Engineered for Performance

Y-Strainers

Compact Y-pattern strainers in ½"–12" sizes, ANSI Class 150–600 and PN10–PN100 ratings — with stainless steel or monel mesh elements in 40–800 mesh (20–400 µm) for inline pipeline installation.

Basket Strainers

High-capacity basket strainers with large dirt-holding volume for services with high solids loading — with perforated or mesh baskets, quick-release covers, and drain connections for easy cleaning.

Duplex Strainers

Twin-basket duplex strainers with diverter valve for continuous operation — allowing one basket to be cleaned while the other remains in service, eliminating process interruption for maintenance.

Automatic Self-Cleaning Strainers

Motor-driven brush or backwash self-cleaning strainers for continuous duty applications — with differential pressure-initiated cleaning cycles and minimal flush water consumption.

Material Selection

Carbon steel (ASTM A216 WCB), 316L stainless steel (CF8M), duplex stainless steel (CD4MCu), and GRP — selected for fluid service, temperature, pressure, and corrosion requirements.

Mesh & Perforation Options

Straining elements in stainless steel mesh (40–800 mesh), perforated plate (0.5–10 mm), and wedge wire — selected for the particle size to be retained and the required pressure drop.

Applicable Standards

  • ISO 9001
  • ASME B16.34 (Valves — Flanged, Threaded, and Welding End)
  • ASME B31.3 (Process Piping)
  • MSS SP-98 (Protective Unions, Strainers, Separators)
