Overview

Nanofiltration (NF) membranes occupy the performance range between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis — rejecting divalent ions (calcium, magnesium, sulphate), natural organic matter (NOM), colour, and hardness while passing monovalent ions (sodium, chloride) at higher rates. Operating at 5–20 bar feed pressure with water recovery of 75–90%, NF systems are used for water softening, colour removal, partial desalination, and organic matter reduction where full TDS removal is not required. Basiia packages NF systems as standalone units or as part of integrated membrane treatment trains.

Divalent Ion Rejection

NF membranes achieve >95% rejection of divalent ions (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, SO₄²⁻) while passing monovalent ions at 40–60% — enabling selective softening and sulphate removal without full desalination.

Low Operating Pressure

Feed pressures of 5–20 bar (versus 10–80 bar for RO) reduce energy consumption and allow use of lower-cost pump and pressure vessel materials — making NF economical for large-volume softening and colour removal applications.

High Water Recovery

Water recovery of 75–90% reduces concentrate volume and disposal costs — with antiscalant dosing and pH adjustment to maximise recovery within scaling limits.

NOM & Colour Removal

Effective removal of natural organic matter (NOM), humic acids, and colour from surface water sources — reducing disinfection by-product (DBP) formation potential and meeting aesthetic water quality targets.

Sulphate Removal for SWI

Dedicated sulphate removal NF systems for seawater injection (SRI) applications in oil and gas — preventing barium and strontium sulphate scale in reservoir injection wells.

Skid-Mounted Package

Fully integrated skid with NF membrane array, high-pressure pump, antiscalant dosing, cartridge pre-filtration, CIP system, and PLC control — factory assembled and tested before shipment.
