Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO)
Reliable desalination of brackish groundwater and surface water for industrial and potable use.
Overview
Basiia packages brackish water reverse osmosis (BWRO) systems for desalination of groundwater, surface water, and process streams with TDS in the range of 500–10,000 mg/L. Operating at feed pressures of 10–25 bar, BWRO systems achieve high water recovery (70–85%) with permeate TDS typically below 50 mg/L. Our packages integrate pre-treatment, high-pressure pumping, polyamide TFC membrane arrays, and post-treatment in a single engineered skid — sized to the specific feed water chemistry, flow rate, and target permeate quality of each project.
Typical Applications
- Groundwater desalination for industrial process water
- Potable water production for remote camps and communities
- Boiler feed water demineralisation
- Cooling tower make-up water treatment
- Mining site water supply from brackish aquifers
- Agricultural irrigation water from saline groundwater
- Pre-treatment for ion exchange and EDI polishing
- Produced water treatment for reuse
Key Features
Engineered for Performance
Polyamide TFC Membrane Elements
Thin-film composite (TFC) polyamide spiral-wound membrane elements in 4" and 8" diameters — selected for feed water chemistry, temperature, and target recovery. Leading membrane brands (Dow FilmTec, Toray, Hydranautics) specified to project requirements.
High-Pressure Pump Skids
Stainless steel multistage centrifugal high-pressure pumps with variable speed drives (VSD) for energy-efficient operation across varying feed conditions — with pressure relief and recirculation protection.
Antiscalant & Chemical Dosing
Antiscalant dosing systems (LSI and Langelier Saturation Index analysis) to prevent carbonate, sulphate, and silica scaling on membrane surfaces — with acid dosing for pH adjustment and biocide dosing for biological fouling control.
Cartridge Pre-Filtration
5-micron cartridge filter housings upstream of the high-pressure pump to protect membrane elements from particulate damage — with differential pressure monitoring and automated change-out indication.
Automated CIP System
Clean-in-place (CIP) skid with chemical mixing tank, low-pressure pump, and automated valve sequencing for membrane cleaning — restoring flux and rejection after fouling events.
Post-Treatment & Remineralisation
Post-RO pH correction, CO₂ stripping, and calcite contactor remineralisation for potable water applications — with chlorination or UV disinfection to meet WHO drinking water guidelines.
Applicable Standards
- ASTM D1193 (Reagent Water)
- ISO 9001
- WHO Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality
- ASME B31.3 (Process Piping)
- NSF/ANSI 58 (RO drinking water systems)
