Overview

Mechanical Vapour Recompression (MVR) systems use a compressor to recompress evaporated vapour back to the heating side of the evaporator — recycling latent heat and eliminating the need for external steam. This reduces specific energy consumption to 10–20 kWh/m³ of water evaporated, compared to 50–100 kWh/m³ for conventional steam-heated evaporators. Basiia supplies MVR systems integrated with falling film evaporators, brine concentrators, and forced recirculation evaporators for energy-efficient ZLD applications.

10–20 kWh/m³ Specific Energy

MVR reduces specific energy consumption by 70–80% versus steam-heated evaporation — delivering significant operating cost savings over the plant lifetime, particularly where electricity is cheaper than steam.

No External Steam Required

Once running, the MVR system is self-sustaining — the compressor provides all the energy needed for evaporation, eliminating dependence on boiler steam and reducing utility infrastructure requirements.

Variable Speed Drive (VSD)

VSD-controlled compressor motor adjusts capacity to match feed flow and concentration — enabling efficient part-load operation and smooth response to process upsets.

Integration with Evaporator Types

Compatible with falling film evaporators, forced recirculation evaporators, and brine concentrators — MVR module supplied as an integrated package or retrofit to existing evaporator vessels.

Vapour Compression Efficiency

High-efficiency impeller and casing design with minimal mechanical losses — compressor isentropic efficiency >80% maintained across the operating range for consistent low energy consumption.
