Brine Concentrators
Maximising water recovery from high-salinity reject streams.
Overview
Brine concentrators are vertical-tube falling film evaporators specifically engineered for high-TDS reject streams from reverse osmosis, desalination, and industrial processes. Operating under vacuum with mechanical vapour recompression, they achieve very high water recovery rates — reducing brine volume by 90–95% before final crystallisation or disposal. Basiia supplies brine concentrator packages as standalone units or as part of integrated ZLD trains.
Typical Applications
- RO reject and desalination brine concentration
- Power plant cooling tower blowdown ZLD
- Produced water volume reduction
- Industrial wastewater brine management
- Mining process water recovery
- FGD wastewater concentration
- Landfill leachate volume reduction
- Pre-crystalliser brine preparation
Key Features
Engineered for Performance
Vertical Tube Falling Film Design
Thin-film evaporation on vertical tube surfaces under vacuum — high heat transfer coefficients with low temperature difference driving force, minimising energy consumption.
MVR Integration
Mechanical vapour recompression compressor reuses evaporated vapour as the heat source — achieving specific energy consumption as low as 10–15 kWh/m³ of distillate produced.
90–95% Water Recovery
Concentrates brine to near-saturation levels — recovering the majority of water as high-purity distillate and reducing the volume sent to the crystalliser or evaporation pond by up to 95%.
Seed Slurry Anti-Scaling
Controlled seed slurry recirculation maintains calcium sulphate and other sparingly soluble salts in suspension — preventing scale deposition on tube surfaces and enabling continuous operation.
Distillate Quality
Produces high-purity distillate (TDS <10 mg/L) suitable for boiler feed water, cooling tower make-up, or process reuse — maximising water recovery value.
Modular Skid Construction
Factory-assembled and tested skid packages — vapour body, heat exchanger, MVR compressor, recirculation pump, and control panel — for rapid site installation and commissioning.
Applicable Standards
- ASME VIII Div. 1 (Pressure Vessels)
- TEMA (Heat Exchanger Design)
- ISO 9001
- ATEX / IECEx (where applicable)
- Local environmental discharge regulations
