Activated Carbon Filters

Removal of chlorine, organics, taste, odour, and trace contaminants from water.

Overview

Basiia supplies granular activated carbon (GAC) pressure filter vessels for removal of free chlorine, chloramines, dissolved organics, taste and odour compounds, and trace contaminants from water and process streams. GAC adsorption is used to protect RO membranes from oxidant damage, meet potable water aesthetic quality standards, and remove specific organic micropollutants. Our packages include carbon-filled pressure vessels with automated backwash, carbon loading and unloading provisions, and PLC control — supplied as standalone units or integrated into multi-stage treatment trains.

Typical Applications

  • Dechlorination ahead of RO membranes
  • Taste and odour removal from potable water
  • Removal of disinfection by-products (THMs, HAAs)
  • Organic micropollutant removal (pesticides, pharmaceuticals)
  • Chloramine removal from dialysis water
  • Industrial process water dechlorination
  • Colour removal from surface water
  • Polishing of treated wastewater for reuse

Key Features

Engineered for Performance

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

Coal-based, coconut shell, or wood-based GAC media selected for the target contaminant and application — with iodine number, BET surface area, and particle size specified to adsorption requirements.

Pressure Vessel Design

Carbon steel or FRP pressure vessels to ASME VIII or PED — with internal distribution headers, carbon support underdrain, and top manway for carbon loading and unloading.

Chlorine & Chloramine Removal

GAC provides effective dechlorination and dechloramination of feed water ahead of RO membranes — preventing oxidative degradation of polyamide TFC membrane elements and extending membrane service life.

Organic Micropollutant Adsorption

High surface area GAC (800–1,200 m²/g) adsorbs a wide range of organic micropollutants — including pesticides, herbicides, pharmaceutical compounds, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals — from drinking water and process streams.

Backwash & Carbon Reactivation

Automated backwash for bed expansion and fines removal; spent carbon replacement or off-site thermal reactivation service — restoring adsorption capacity and extending carbon service life.

Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) Option

Powdered activated carbon (PAC) dosing systems for emergency or seasonal treatment of taste, odour, and algal toxin events — dosed upstream of a coagulation/filtration stage.

Applicable Standards

  • ISO 9001
  • ASME VIII Div. 1 (pressure vessels)
  • AWWA B604 (Granular Activated Carbon)
  • NSF/ANSI 61 (carbon media for potable contact)
  • WHO Guidelines for Drinking-Water Quality
